Climate Resilient Gardening Forum30-04-2025
SGA’s webinars and workshops are designed to inspire and are rich in practical suggestions for people to use in their own gardens. Click on the questions below to find out more about our community education activities.
What workshop formats and durations are available?
SGA offers a number of workshop formats that are flexible enough to meet your needs.
- Webinars: 45 – 90 minutes
SGA can offer full service online webinars for your community. Set up and hosted by SGA on Zoom, webinars often reach a larger audience than face-to-face workshops as they require no travel and are often more convenient for people to attend. Recordings can also be made available for a limited time for people who can’t attend or for participants to re-watch.
- Face-to-Face Workshops: 60 – 90 minutes
SGA’s face-to-face workshops bring people together to learn about gardening sustainably. Face-to-face workshops can include hands-on, practical activities such as making paper pots or seed packets and soil testing.
- Walk and Talk Workshops – 60-90 minutes
A community garden or nature reserve is a great venue to inspire people to garden more sustainably. The venue provides the inspiration for discussion, highlighting examples of what can be achieved or changed in the home garden or community space. Topics that can be adopted to this format include Habitat Gardening, Preparing for (season) Harvest and Starting an Organic Garden.
What's included in each workshop?
SGA’s workshops are designed to make everything as easy as possible for our host organisations. We provide a professional powerpoint presentation, handout notes and all materials for our hands-on activtiies. SGA also provides a marketing blurb and image to use to promote the workshop.
For webinars, SGA will set up the webinar on Zoom and invite a representative from the host organisation to co-host the session. As an optional add-on, SGA can record the webinar and make the recording available following the live event.
Do you offer hands-on activities?
SGA offers hands-on activities to complement most of our workshops. These activities encourage attendees to develop their gardening skills and an opportunity for community interaction. Examples of activities include making biodegradable pots, planting microgreen seeds and making native bee hotels. We will suggest a suitable activity when quoting for workshops.

What do host organisations say about SGA's workshops?
We’ve worked with SGA for many years to deliver our sustainability workshop program. Richard is easy to communicate with and always gets back to us quickly with quotes. He and his speakers are passionate, enthusiastic and great subject matter experts.’
Andrea and Liz, City of Boroondara
The presentation was detailed and professional, and delivered with clarity, warmth and passion. Our participants really appreciated understanding all the steps they could take to support biodiversity in their own backyards. Sustainable Gardening Australia is an important source of independent advice for home gardeners. I regard their work highly and regularly recommend their resources to our residents.
Kat Lavers, My Smart Garden, Hobsons Bay City Council
I greatly enjoy engaging Sustainable Gardening Australia for community workshops when I can, as I know that their presentations are always of high quality and presented in an engaging manner. I have received nothing but high praise as feedback from patrons who have attended SGA programs at my library. [Former presenters] Richard and Nicole are a delight to work with and extremely accommodating of working with the needs and requirements of local government and community organisations.
Aimee Rhodes, Kathleen Syme Library – Melbourne Library Service
