Sustainable Gardening Australia (SGA) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to achieving a healthy biodiverse planet and vibrant, sustainable communities. We aim to enable home and professional gardeners to adopt sustainable gardening practices.

To achieve its aims SGA has been working closely with the Garden Industry for 15 years.  We currently have more than 1,100 working gardeners and garden businesses, many of whom have been involved with our industry training in the past, on our database.

Our industry program focuses on Green Gardening Professionals who are working gardeners, horticulturists, landscapers, food gardeners, educators, trainers and nursery persons.

SGA runs a successful website which attracts between 80,000 and 130,000 unique visitors per month. The website boasts well-researched, evidence-based articles and lists of gardening professionals with sustainable gardening credentials. SGA sends out a newsletter, ‘Cuttings’, once a month to over 13,000 subscribers.

We run master classes for home gardeners and garden professionals and are planning to run these online.

SGA has also developed the first system in Australia that rates over 1000 garden chemicals, fertilisers and soil conditioners according to their safety and environmental impacts.

We invite you to become a SGA Green Gardening Professional. Your annual subscription of $75 will contribute to a more sustainable future through gardening. It also entitles you to free attendance at up to 12 sustainable gardening professionals training evenings. These events give members the chance to catch up with people working in the same field and share information about sustainable gardening practices. Speakers in the past have included experts in native grasses, urban tree health and soils.
