October’s Masterclass is one for the birds!  Have you ever wondered why you only see wattlebirds and noisy miners in your garden?   

Gardens lacking structural layers and areas of dense planting favour these species, often referred to as ‘bully birds’ because they exclude smaller species like honeyeaters and wrens. 

Join us for a fresh perspective on how noticing birds helps us grow better habitat gardens.  Bird specialist Kirsty Costa will invite you to take a critical look at your garden ‘through bird eyes’. 

Kirsty will deepen your understanding of bird ecology so you can better determine what design elements and plants you can add or change to attract a greater diversity of birds to your garden. 

In this Masterclass Kirsty will cover 

• Bird beaks: different beaks mean different diet – understanding what birds eat and the plants that can provide varied food for birds. 

• Bird behaviours: habitat needs for shelter, nesting and other daily activities. 

• Bird identification: simple tips to help you name the birds in your garden.
