Patersonia fragilis(Short Purple Flag)Patersonia fragilis, or Short Purple-flag look very much like Iris with purple flowers and they even have a rhizomatous root system, just like the Iris. P. fragilis is found naturally in the Eastern states of Australia, from Queensland down to Tasmania and across to South Australia. They are associated with Tea tree heath. Although only 3 petals are obvious, there are another 3 tiny petals between each large one, making a total of 6. They flower from September to January. Even when they are not flowering, this Purple flag has attractive, upright, green foliage. Click here to return to the list.
