Eucalyptus leucoxylon(Yellow Gum, White Ironbark or S.A. Bluegum)Description: This tree is indigenous to areas around Melbourne and Adelaide and also western Victoria, and south-western New South Wales. Melbourne’s local subspecies, E.leucoxylon ssp. connata has cream or white flowers, whilst the western form E. leucoxylon ssp. megalocarpa (often sold as ‘Rosea’) has red or pink flowers. The tree flowers from May to September and although the flowers are pretty, the most obvious sign that the tree is flowering is the chatter of parrots that flock to eat the nectar produced. This species also provides food for seed- and insect-eating birds and caterpillars as well. Click here to return to the list.
