Brachyscome multifida(Cut Leaf Daisy)This beautiful little groundcover is covered in small daisy flowers during the warmer months of the year. Even through the winter it will have a few white, pink, mauve or blue flowers. It originates from Victoria, QLD and NSW and is now easily available in nurseries. Brachyscome flower best in full sun, but will tolerate some shade. Even if a shady spot leaves them bereft of flowers in the cooler months, the foliage is very attractive. It is bright green and compact, quite soft and finely divided. These plants are very tolerant of dry conditions and need a well drained soil. The plant spreads across the ground and also sends up suckers. It is fast growing and makes a great disguise for mulched areas around larger shrubs. It only grows to about 30cm high, so it also makes a pretty border at the edge of garden beds. They grow well in pots and trail a little to soften the edges. To keep the plant neat and compact, you can prune it back quite hard and it will resprout all fresh and new. To find out if Brachyscome multifida is indigenous to your local area, ask at a nursery or find out from the council. Click here to return to the list.
