wicking box/beds - a new concept

I found out about this method via another group called 'aussies living simply'. This method can be used by anyone especially those with little room for growing vegies and uses very little water. Info can be found on the waterright site

Thanks for the link, I found http://www.easygrowvegetables.com/easygrow.html particularly interesting for myself.

By the way, would anyone know where in Melbourne I could get those polystyrene boxes from ( apparently, some are 'food grade' so I believe some are not ) ?

Thanks for the acticles, I brought a planting container back before christmas that appears to work on a similar wicking system but have yet to pot it up. I am going to give these a try though as I have a couple of broccoli boxes sitting about.

Andy, I got my boxes from the local orchard that has door sales. Fruit shops and supermarkets are worth a try too, sometimes they are more than happy for someone to take the boxes away for them.

Cheers,

Tracey.

Yes, I have checked at a local greengrocer - they were happy to get rid of some boxes except for a) they all had quite a few holes around the bottom and b) none were particularly big. I took one to try, I am hoping to line it with some plastic - probably a bag, but would like to make sure that plastic does not have any nasties in it and ideally is UV stabilised. I'll keep looking, though !

Hi Andy,

If you're over in the west of Melbourne, try the Footscray Markets, or the Vic Markets in the city. These guys are generally gagging to get rid of their boxes.

Cheers,

ec
