'Ground-up Gardening'


Recommended Number of Participants - 50 plus


'Ground-up Gardening' is a newly developed, interactive workshop series encompassing 10 hours of in-depth community training. The workshops focus on environmentally sustainable garden design, construction and ongoing maintenance.


Workshops can be presented either as

  • 2 hour weekly workshops over 5 consecutive weeks or

  • 5 hour weekend workshops over 2 consecutive weekends.


Topics are covered in depth and include:

  • SOILS - Organic management and improvement; fertiliser use; soil wetting agents and conditioners.

  • COMPOST & MULCH - Organic recycling; composting and worm farms; selecting and using mulches.

  • GARDEN IRRIGATION - Rainwater and grey water use; efficient irrigation systems and urban stormwater quality.

  • PLANT SELECTION & HEALTH - Horticultural chemicals; IPM; environmental weeds; drought tolerant plants; native & indigenous plants.

  • SUSTAINABLE GARDEN DESIGN - Sustainable design principles; site assessment; habitat gardens; produce gardens; raingardens.
