Nillumbik Waterwise Gardens

How do you know what type of soil you have and how you can improve its water holding capacity? What are the best plants to put in? What mulch do you use and how deep to you lay it? How do you create a beautiful garden that has interest and flow?

Sustainable Gardening Australia delivered three hands-on courses in the Shire of Nillumbik in Victoria during March and April 2007 that demonstrated both the theory and practical aspects of waterwise gardening.

Funded by the Federal Government Community Water Grant and delivered in partnership with Nillumbik Shire Council and the Nillumbik Living & Learning Centres, the three gardens were created by local residents who attended the course over two weekends at Eltham, Diamond Creek and Panton Hill.

SGA has developed an on-going photographic record of the three gardens to provide a valuable resource for the Nillumbik community of waterwise plants that thrive in the local area.
