About

Sustainable Gardening Australia was established in 2002. We are a not-for-profit, non-government organisation dedicated to changing the way Australians garden.

‘How we garden makes a big difference to the health of our local environment. Water conservation, creating wildlife habitat and reducing nutrient pollution is just the beginning… we can also grow our own food, switch to organics and tackle the spread of environmental weeds. Sustainable Gardening Australia is taking the lead to increase this awareness and should be congratulated.’ – Josh Byrne (SGA Patron)

If you donate to SGA, your money goes directly towards keeping our great programs running, like…

SGA Neighbourhood Gardening Groups

SGA PODs (Productive, Organic, Diverse, Sustainable Neighbourhood Gardening Groups) are uniting like-minded locals through their common love of gardening, their concern for the health and well-being of the planet and their willingness to involve themselves and their families in the local community.

Certified Garden Centres

SGA Certified Garden Centres are passionate about the environment and are committed to reducing their environmental footprints. With over 90 certified garden centres in four states the SGA certified garden centre program is a winner for garden centre staff, their customers, and the environment!

Environmentally Certified Landscape Industry Professionals (ECLIPs)

SGA accredited ECLIPs professionals must undergo regular training and audits to ensure they are staying at the top of their game. We work with landscape businesses, parks and gardens teams and design businesses to help them become more sustainable, which makes it easier for you to choose a greener landscaper.

Website and FREE monthly e-mag

With over 30 000 hits per month, and 10 000 Cuttings subscribers, SGA’s online resources are seriously second to none. Our internet resources are widely regarded as some of the best in the business… all this from a tiny non-profit, non-government organisation!

Local Government & Community Workshops

Each year, SGA runs in excess of 50 workshops for local government and communities, with over 1000 participants in 2009 alone. We cover subjects like soil health, vegie gardening, organic pest control, efficient water use and much more.
