Sustainable Training Programs

SGA training courses are based on accurate and scientific information presented in an easy to understand format.

Courses offer practical solutions and realistic alternatives to conventional gardening practices. Training programs are designed to emphasise the interconnectivity between each element in a sustainable garden, from its design and development to its ongoing maintenance and seasonal adaptations.

Community Training

‘Yummy Yards’ is a fun and informative 2 part garden workshop series on designing and maintaining a successful produce garden throughout the year. Yummy Yards is delivered with seasonally appropriate information and tips to ensure participants are highly motivated to start growing their fruit and vegetables. Workshops can be delivered over 2 day or evening sessions at a council nominated venue.  Seasonal topics covered include: Produce Garden Designs – Healthy Soils – Compost & Fertilisers – Irrigation – Edible Plants – Fruit Trees – Harvesting – Seed Saving – Pruning – Organic Pest Control

‘Gardening from Scratch’ is an in-depth 2 part garden workshop series specifically
designed to meet the needs of home gardeners. All workshops focus on
environmentally sustainable garden design, construction, plant selection and ongoing maintenance. No prior knowledge of gardening is required.  Workshops can be delivered over 2 day or evening sessions at a council nominated venue.  Gardening from Scratch can be tailored to suit the design and installation of many garden types including Wildlife Gardens,Sensory Gardens and Communal Gardens.

‘Sustainable Feasts’ are a range of short interactive workshops designed to run in 1hour blocks to fit in with busy lifestyles or workers’ lunch breaks. Topics currently available include:
Get Down and Dirty! – Organic soil management
Sustainable Design – Understanding the elements of a sustainable garden
Compost from Scratch – An overview of common composting systems
Gardens for Wildlife! – Attracting wildlife to your garden
Pottering About! – Growing plants in containers and pots.
Organic Pest Control! – Running a chemical free garden.
Effective Irrigation – Making the most out of your garden watering systems.
